# Language Templates

Change the wording in the cBook Player UI as it fits your organization.

## What Are Language Templates?

Language templates let you customize the default wording used in your cBooks. If you want to replace certain terms or phrases — for example, changing "Chapter" to "Module" or "Quiz" to "Knowledge Check" — you can create a language template with your preferred wording and assign it to any cBook. Each template covers all available languages, so your custom wording works regardless of which language your learners use.

### Where to Find Language Templates

You manage language templates in the **General Settings** area. This is an organization-wide setting — templates you create here are available to all cBooks in your account.

To assign a template to a specific cBook, go to that cBook's **Settings** (General tab).

### Creating a Language Template

1. Go to **General Settings** and open the **Language Templates** section.
2. You'll see an introductory text explaining the feature, a dropdown for selecting existing templates, and a card for adding new ones.

To create a new template:

1. Enter a name for your template in the **New template name** field.
2. Choose one of two options:
3. - **Create blank** (plus icon) — Creates an empty template with no custom wordings. You start from scratch.
    - **Copy current** (copy icon) — Copies all custom wordings from the currently selected template into the new one. This is useful when you want a variation of an existing template. You must have a template selected in the dropdown for this option to be available.
4. Your new template appears in the dropdown and is automatically selected.

**Note:** The name field is required. You'll see an error message if you try to create a template without entering a name.

### Editing Custom Wording

Once you select a template from the dropdown, a table appears showing all available translation keys. The table has four columns:

- **Language** — A colored badge showing the language code (e.g., EN, DE, FR). Each key appears once per supported language.
- **Key** — The internal identifier for the text string. This helps you find the right entry, but you don't need to memorize these.
- **Default wording** — The standard text that your cBook uses out of the box. This column is read-only.
- **Custom wording** — Your replacement text. This is the column you edit.

To change a wording:

1. Click the **edit icon** (pencil) in the Actions column on the row you want to change.
2. The Custom wording cell becomes editable. Type your replacement text.
3. Click the **checkmark icon** to save, or the **X icon** to cancel.

You can use the **search bar** at the top of the table to filter entries by language, key, or wording. The table supports pagination — use the controls at the bottom to navigate through pages or change how many rows are displayed (10, 50, or 100).

**Tip:** You only need to fill in custom wording for the entries you want to change. Any entry left blank will continue using the default wording.

### Assigning a Template to a cBook

Once you've created and configured a language template, you can assign it to individual cBooks:

1. Open the cBook you want to customize and go to **Settings** (General tab).
2. Check the **Use custom wording** checkbox.
3. A dropdown appears. Select the language template you want to apply.
4. Save your cBook settings.

**Important:** You cannot save the settings if the checkbox is enabled but no template is selected. Either select a template or uncheck the box.

If a cBook references a language template that no longer exists (for example, if the template was deleted), you'll see a warning in the audit log: *"This cBook uses a language template that is not available on this account. Instead, no language template will be used."*

### Deleting a Template

1. Select the template you want to delete from the dropdown in General Settings.
2. Click the **delete icon** (trash can) next to the dropdown.
3. A confirmation dialog appears, showing:
4. - A warning that deletion cannot be undone.
    - A list of **affected cBooks** — all cBooks currently using this template. If no cBooks use it, you'll see a message confirming that.
    - A prompt asking if you're sure.
5. Click **Yes, permanently delete it** to confirm, or **No, do not delete it** to cancel.

**Warning:** Deleting a language template is permanent and cannot be undone. Any cBook that was using the deleted template will fall back to the default wording.

### Things to Keep in Mind

- Language templates are managed at the **organization level** — all users with settings permissions can create, edit, and delete them.
- Each template contains entries for **all supported languages**. You don't need to create separate templates per language.
- Only users with the appropriate **settings permission** can enable custom wording or select a template in cBook settings.
- Changes to a template take effect for all cBooks that use it. If you update a custom wording in a template, every cBook assigned to that template will reflect the change.
