# Disclaimer for Community Features

### What Is the Disclaimer?

The Disclaimer feature lets you require participants to accept a legal notice before they can use Community Features (such as social activities, comments, word clouds, or essays). You can write the disclaimer text in multiple languages. If enabled, users see the disclaimer as a mandatory overlay — they must click "Accept" before they can access any community content.

### Where to Find the Disclaimer Settings

To open the General Settings, click the **settings icon** on the right side of the top menu bar. Then select **Disclaimer** in the left sidebar menu (marked with a lock icon). This page is only accessible to admins.

### Activating the Disclaimer

At the top of the page, you'll find the **Activate disclaimer** section with a toggle switch:

- **On** — Participants must accept the disclaimer before using Community Features
- **Off** — Participants have immediate access to Community Features without any prompt

### Writing the Disclaimer Content

Below the activation toggle, you'll find the **Disclaimer Content** section. Here you write the actual text that participants will see.

**Setting up content for different languages:**

1. Select a language from the **Selected language** dropdown
2. A rich text editor appears where you can write and format your disclaimer text
3. You can use **bold**, **italic**, **underline**, and **lists** to format the content
4. Repeat for each language you want to support

The disclaimer is shown to each participant in their respective language. If no content exists for a participant's language, they will see a fallback message.

### Publishing and Re-Publishing

When you save the disclaimer, it becomes active for all participants who haven't accepted it yet.

If you update the disclaimer text and want all participants — including those who already accepted a previous version — to accept the new version again, check the **Re-publish on save** checkbox before saving. This forces everyone to re-accept.

The page also shows when the disclaimer was **last published**, so you can keep track of the most recent version.

### What Participants See

When a participant opens a cBook with Community Features and the disclaimer is active:

1. Instead of the community content, they see an overlay with the header **"Please accept the Disclaimer first"**
2. The disclaimer text is displayed in their language
3. An **Accept** button is shown at the bottom
4. The participant must click **Accept** to proceed — there is no way to dismiss the overlay without accepting
5. Once accepted, the community content loads and the participant can use all social features

The disclaimer only needs to be accepted once (unless you re-publish it, in which case participants must accept again).

### Step-by-Step: Setting Up a Disclaimer

1. Go to **General Settings > Disclaimer**
2. Turn on the **Activate disclaimer** toggle
3. Select the first language from the dropdown
4. Write your disclaimer text in the editor
5. Select additional languages and add translated content for each
6. Click the **Save** button (floating icon in the top-right area)
7. Participants will now see the disclaimer before accessing Community Features

**To update an existing disclaimer:**

1. Edit the text in one or more languages
2. If you want everyone to re-accept, check **Re-publish on save**
3. Click **Save**
