# How to Edit Your Default cBook Settings

Every new cBook in your organisation starts from a default cBook. On the **cBook defaults** page you choose what that starting point looks like: the language, the theme, the logo, the navigation style and the community features. After that, every new cBook starts with your choices already set, so authors don't have to set them up each time.

**Who can do this?**

Only admins of your organisation can open the cBook defaults page. If you don't see it in the menu, ask an admin in your organisation.

**Before you start: what changes and what doesn't**

- **Only new cBooks are affected.** Your changes apply to cBooks created after you save. Existing cBooks keep their settings. The page tells you how many existing cBooks your organisation has.
- **Authors stay flexible.** The defaults are only a starting point. Authors can still change each setting in their own cBook.
- **AI-generated cBooks too.** If your organisation creates cBooks with AI, the page tells you that your settings also apply to new AI-generated cBooks.

**Opening the cBook defaults page**

1. In the top bar of Creator, click the **gear icon** (General Settings).
2. Select **cBook defaults** from the menu.

If you see the message "Your organisation has no default cBook yet. Please contact support.", your organisation doesn't have a default cBook yet. Contact support and they'll set one up for you.

**What you can set**

The page has four sections.

**Language**

- **cBook language:** Choose the language for the interface texts of new cBooks, such as buttons and menus. This doesn't change the content you write. It only changes the texts your participants see around it.

**Design**

- **Current theme:** Choose a theme for new cBooks. The theme sets things like fonts, font sizes and accent colours. You need a theme before you can save.
- **Theme variant:** If the theme you chose has variants, pick one here. When you switch to a different theme, the variant is reset, so check it again afterwards.
- **Logo:** Click **Add logo** to pick an image from your media library. The logo appears in the header of every slide in new cBooks. Click **Remove logo** to take it off again.
- **Logo link target:** Choose the slide participants go to when they click the logo. This only applies to new standard cBooks, not to AI-generated ones.
- **Logo position:** Choose where the logo appears: **Header right**, **Header left**, **Footer left** or **Footer right**.

**Navigation**

Choose how participants move through new cBooks:

- **Open navigation:** Participants can move freely through all the content, regardless of their progress.
- **Linear navigation:** Participants unlock the cBook slide by slide and work through the content step by step.

**Community features**

- **Access to the engagement server:** Turn this on if new cBooks should use notes, the Activity Center and community slides. These features need the engagement server to work. If you turn it off, they won't be available in new cBooks until an author turns it on.

**Saving your changes**

When you change something, the round **save button** with the disk icon (top right, or bottom right on a phone) becomes active.

1. Click the save button.
2. A short "Defaults saved." message confirms that your changes are stored.

If the save button stays greyed out, hover over it. If it says "Choose a theme to save.", select a theme in the Design section first.

If you try to leave the page with unsaved changes, Creator asks you to confirm first, so you don't lose your work by accident.

**Step-by-step: give every new cBook your organisation's branding**

1. Open **General Settings** (gear icon) → **cBook defaults**.
2. Under **Design**, choose your organisation's theme in **Current theme**, and a variant if there is one.
3. Click **Add logo** and pick your company logo.
4. Set **Logo position**, for example **Header left**.
5. In **Logo link target**, choose the slide participants should go to when they click the logo, for example your start slide.
6. Click the save button.

All cBooks your authors create from now on start with your theme and logo.

**Step-by-step: set up guided learning for a new course series**

1. Open **General Settings** → **cBook defaults**.
2. Under **Language**, choose the language your participants use.
3. Under **Navigation**, select **Linear navigation** so participants work through the content in order.
4. Under **Community features**, turn on **Access to the engagement server** if participants should take notes or discuss in community slides.
5. Click the save button.

Tip: if you only need these settings for one course, change them in that cBook's own settings instead. The defaults affect every new cBook in your organisation.

**Frequently asked questions**

**I changed the defaults. Why does my existing cBook still look the same?**
Defaults only apply to cBooks created after you saved. To change an existing cBook, open it and change its own settings.

**Can authors change what I set here?**
Yes. Authors can change every setting inside their own cBook.

**I can't find "cBook defaults" in the menu.**
Only admins can see this page. Ask an admin in your organisation for help.
