AI Provenance in the Asset Manager

The asset manager shows you which files were made or changed with AI. A small sparkle icon marks every file where AI was involved. When you hover over it, it tells you what the AI did and how cBook knows.

You can also say yourself whether a file was made with AI, and you can filter a folder so that only AI-made files are shown.

Where you see the AI markers

Grid view
AI-made files show a dark sparkle badge in the top-right corner of the tile. Hover over it to see the details.

List view
The sparkle icon sits next to the file icon in the first column. Hover over it for the details.

File details panel
When you open a file, a tag such as Created with AI or Edited with AI appears next to the "Updated at" date. Hover over the tag to see where that information comes from.

Alt text
In the alt text area, a sparkle icon next to a language button means the alt text in that language was written by AI.

Subtitles tab
A sparkle icon on the Subtitles tab means the file has at least one subtitle track that AI generated. Each AI track also shows an AI label in the subtitle list.

What the markers mean

The tooltip lists everything AI did to a file, one line each:

  • Created with AI: AI made the whole file, for example a generated image or audio file.
  • Edited with AI: you started with an existing file and changed it with AI.
  • Analyzed with AI Β· 5 tags: AI looked at the image and wrote alt text and tags for it. The file itself was not made by AI. You only see this line if AI image analysis is turned on for your account.
  • Alt text written by AI: the alt text was written by AI.
  • Contains AI-generated subtitles: at least one subtitle track was generated by AI.

Created with AI and Edited with AI are about the file itself. The other lines are about content AI added to a file that a person made.

How cBook knows a file was made with AI

The tooltip also tells you where the "Created with AI" or "Edited with AI" information comes from. There are three possible sources:

  1. Made with AI in cBook / Edited with AI in cBook
You created or edited the file with one of cBook's own AI tools, such as AI image creation, AI image editing or AI audio generation. cBook adds the mark automatically when you save. The mark stays if you rename the file.
  2. Detected in the file's metadata
Many AI tools write a note into the file saying that it was made with AI. cBook reads this note when you upload the file. If the tool's name is in the note, the tooltip also shows it, for example Tool: gpt-image.
  3. Marked by a person as created with AI / Marked by a person as edited with AI
Someone set the mark by hand in the file details panel (see below).

When more than one source applies, cBook uses them in this order: made in cBook first, then the file's metadata, then a mark set by a person. This means nobody can hide AI involvement that cBook already knows about.

Marking a file yourself: "Made with AI?"

Every file has a Made with AI? dropdown in the file details panel, just below the "Updated at" date. Use it for files cBook can't check on its own, for example an image you made with an outside AI tool that didn't add a note to the file.

You can choose from these options:

  • Not specified: you haven't said anything about the file. This is the default.
  • Created with AI: AI made the whole file.
  • Edited with AI: AI changed an existing file.
  • Not made with AI: you confirm that a person made the file without AI.

Your choice is saved right away. The badge and tag update as soon as you pick an option. To remove your mark, set the dropdown back to Not specified.

When you can't change the dropdown

The dropdown is greyed out if cBook already knows the file's AI origin for certain. Hover over it to see why:

  • Made with AI in cBook: this tag can not be changed.
  • Detected in the file's metadata: this tag can not be changed.

Nobody can change these marks, administrators included. This keeps the AI labels in your library reliable.

Showing only AI-made files

If the folder you're in contains AI-made files, an AI-made chip appears in the search and filter area.

  • Click AI-made to show only files that were created or edited with AI.
  • The chip shows how many matching files there are.
  • It works together with tag and name search, so you can narrow the list down further.
  • Click the chip again, or the small x on it, to turn the filter off. It also turns off when you switch to another folder.

The filter only checks whether a file was created or edited with AI. Files that only have AI alt text, AI tags or AI subtitles are not included.

Step-by-step guides

Mark an image you made with an outside AI tool

  1. Upload the image to the asset manager.
  2. Check whether a sparkle badge shows up. If it does, cBook found the AI note in the file and you're done.
  3. If there's no badge, click the file to open the details panel.
  4. In Made with AI?, choose Created with AI. If you only changed an existing image with AI, choose Edited with AI instead.
  5. The tag now appears next to the date and the tooltip says Marked by a person as created with AI.

Check where a file's AI mark comes from

  1. Hover over the sparkle badge in the grid or list, or over the tag in the file details panel.
  2. The first line tells you what AI did, for example Created with AI.
  3. The next line tells you how cBook knows: made in cBook, found in the file's metadata, or marked by a person.
  4. If the mark came from the file's metadata, a Tool line may name the AI tool.

Find every AI-made file in a folder

  1. Open the folder.
  2. Click the AI-made chip.
  3. Add a tag or a search term if you want to narrow it down further.

Fix a wrong mark

  1. Open the file details panel.
  2. If the Made with AI? dropdown is active, choose the correct option, or Not specified to remove the mark.
  3. If the dropdown is greyed out, the mark comes from cBook itself or from the file's metadata, and you can't change it. If you think the file is labelled wrongly, upload a version of the file that doesn't contain the AI note.

Good to know

  • "Analyzed with AI" doesn't mean "made with AI". It only means AI described an image that already existed. The file isn't counted as AI-made and doesn't show up in the AI-made filter.
  • Renaming a file keeps its AI mark.
  • Folders never get an AI mark, only files do.
