Categories

Organize and filter your cBooks.

What Are Categories?

Categories help you organize your cBooks and make them easy to find. You define categories (like "Training Program") and add sub-items to each one (like "Onboarding", "Data Protection", "Workplace Safety"). Authors can then assign these categories to individual cBooks and use them to filter the dashboard.

Categories require admin permissions to set up.

Where to Find Category Management

To open the General Settings, click the settings icon on the right side of the top menu bar. Then select Category management in the left sidebar menu (marked with a tag icon). This is where you create, edit, and delete all categories that are available across your organization.

How Categories Work

Categories work in three places:

  1. General Settings — Admins create and manage categories here
  2. cBook Settings — Authors assign categories to individual cBooks
  3. Dashboard — Everyone can filter cBooks by category

Think of it like a tagging system: you first define the tags (categories and their sub-items), then you tag each cBook, and finally everyone can filter by those tags in the dashboard.

Creating a Category

  1. Go to General Settings > Category management
  2. Click New category
  3. Enter a Category name (up to 30 characters)
  4. Add at least one sub-item — type the name (up to 50 characters) and confirm
  5. Add more sub-items as needed
  6. Click Add category to save

Example: Category "Training Program" with sub-items: Onboarding, Data Protection, Security at Work.

Tip: Each category must contain at least one sub-item.

Editing a Category

  1. In the category table, click the edit icon on the row you want to change
  2. The edit dialog opens with all current settings
  3. You can:
    • Rename the category
    • Add new sub-items
    • Edit existing sub-item names (click the edit icon next to a sub-item)
    • Delete sub-items (click the delete icon next to a sub-item)
    • Reorder sub-items by dragging them
  4. Save your changes

Note: Sub-item names must be unique within a category. You'll see an error message if you try to add a duplicate name.

Deleting a Category

  1. Click the delete icon on the category row, or select multiple categories using the checkboxes and click the delete button
  2. Confirm the deletion in the dialog that appears

Warning: Deleting a category is permanent and cannot be undone. Any cBooks that were assigned to this category will lose that assignment.

Assigning Categories to a cBook

Once categories have been created in General Settings, they become available in the settings of each individual cBook.

  1. Open a cBook and go to its Settings (General tab)
  2. Scroll to the Categorize this cBook section
  3. For each category, choose a sub-item from the dropdown — or leave it at "No Selection"
  4. Save your changes

Each cBook can have one sub-item selected per category. For example, if you have a category "Training Program", you can assign "Onboarding" to one cBook and "Data Protection" to another.

If no categories have been created yet, you'll see a message: "Start by creating a category in the general settings. It will then be available here!"

Filtering cBooks by Category in the Dashboard

Categories appear as filters in the dashboard's search panel.

  1. Open the filter panel on the dashboard
  2. You'll see each category with its sub-items listed as toggle buttons
  3. Click a sub-item to filter — only cBooks assigned to that sub-item will be shown
  4. The number in brackets (e.g., "(5)") shows how many cBooks match
  5. You can select multiple sub-items across different categories
  6. Click Reset to clear all filters

If you have many categories, they are displayed across multiple pages. Use the arrow buttons or swipe to navigate between them.
