General cBook Settings
Introduction
The General settings let you configure the core properties of your cBook — its name, language, navigation behavior, and access control. To access them, open your cBook's settings and select General from the sidebar menu.
Don't forget to save your changes — click the round Save button (disk icon) in the top-right corner before leaving. If you try to leave with unsaved changes, you'll be asked whether to save or discard them.
cBook Name and Language
At the top of the General tab, you'll find two key fields:
- cBook name — The title displayed in the Dashboard and throughout the player. It can be up to 200 characters long.
- cBook language — Determines which language your cBook's interface texts (buttons, labels, navigation elements) appear in. This only affects built-in UI elements — your own content remains exactly as you've written it.
Start in Story Mode
The Start in Story Mode toggle controls whether the cBook opens in Story Mode or Book Mode by default.
- Story Mode presents slides with their full interactive content — videos, audios, animated sequences, and interactions. This is the best way for learners to experience the material for the first time.
- Book Mode shows static text content instead. This is great for quickly looking up information after your learners have already been introduced to the content in Story Mode.
Participants can switch between the two modes during their session.
Setting Up Book Mode Content
Book Mode requires its own content for each slide. To create it:
- Navigate to the slide in the Editor
- Open the slide's Book Mode tab
- Select Activate book mode
- Write your content in the rich text editor — ideally a brief summary of what the slide covers in Story Mode
Custom Wording
If your organization has set up custom wording profiles, you can apply one to your cBook:
- Check the Use custom wording checkbox
- Select a profile from the cBook custom wording dropdown
Custom wording lets you override certain standard interface texts with terminology that better fits your organization or industry. For example, you could replace generic labels with domain-specific terms. Custom wording profiles are created in the organization's general settings — if none are available, the dropdown will be empty.
Access to the Engagement Server
The Access to the engagement server checkbox controls whether community features are enabled for this cBook. When activated, your learners can use community slides, notes, and the Activity Center to collaborate and interact with each other.
cBook Lock (Super Admin Only)
If you are a Super Admin, you'll see a lock icon that lets you lock or unlock the cBook. When a cBook is locked, other users cannot edit it.
Click the info icon next to the lock to view the Lock History, which shows who locked and released the cBook and when.
Navigation
This section determines how participants move through your cBook. You choose between two modes:
Open Navigation
Participants can move freely through all chapters and slides, regardless of their progress. They can jump to any section at any time. This is a good choice for reference materials or self-paced learning where a fixed order isn't necessary.
Linear Navigation
Participants unlock your cBook slide by slide. They must complete each slide before moving on to the next one. This is ideal for structured courses where content builds on previous material, or where you want to ensure participants work through everything in order.
Quick Favourites
Quick Favourites let you highlight important slides directly inside the player's navigation panel, giving participants quick access to key content.
Enabling Quick Favourites
Toggle the Quick Favourites switch on to enable the feature. Once enabled, additional options appear:
- Hide navigation — Hides the main navigation when the Quick Favourites panel is displayed
- Close opened menus — Automatically collapses any open menus when Quick Favourites are shown
- Background image — Add a background image to the Quick Favourites panel
Adding Slide Links
Below the options, a text editor lets you build the content of your Quick Favourites panel. Use it to add links to the slides you want to highlight.
You can also insert a Smart Navigation Button using the toolbar. This button automatically takes the participant back to their previous slide — useful for creating a "back" action within the Quick Favourites.
Note: Not all themes support Quick Favourites. If your current theme doesn't have the Quick Favourites capability, you'll see a warning. Switch to a compatible theme to use this feature without display issues.
Categories
If categories have been set up in your organization's general settings, you can assign your cBook to one or more of them here. Categories help organize cBooks in the Dashboard and make them easier to find.
For each available category, a dropdown appears where you can select the appropriate value. If no categories have been created yet, you'll see a message directing you to set them up in the general settings first.
Members and Access Rights
The Members section (visible to Admins only) lets you control who has access to this cBook in the Creator and what they can do.
Available Roles
- Tutor — Can edit the content of the cBook
- Evaluator — Can view the cBook and the evaluations of community slides
- Publisher — Can create and manage new cBook packages for learning groups
A user can have one or more roles at the same time.

- Click Add member
- Search for and select a user from the list
